What Are They Up To Now? Von Trapps

There are many actors and actresses featured in the movie. These range from little Gretel to Ralph to the Captain. The question at hand is what did they do after the movie? I mean if you look at Hollywood after this movie was made you don't see a lot of the actors and actresses again. Let's start with the van Trapp family.


Captain von Trapp was played by Christopher Plummer. He was one of the only actors after this movie to make it big on screen. Recently he was featured in the Pixar movie Up. Which I might add is a fantastic movie. He provided the voice for the mean explorer who fell off the plane. He was also nominated for his role in Inglorious  Bastards.  Finally, he was the narrator for the show Madeline. I always wondered who did the narrations. Like when you here those narrations in ads, who does those?

Leisel was played by a native Chicagoan. Her name was Charmian Carr. She got the audition through her mother who didn't ask her if she wanted it or not. After the movie she started an interior design company which decorated homes for clients like Michael Jackson. Carr also wrote two books called Letters to Leisel and Forever Leisel.

Friedrich was played by Nicholas Hammond. After the movie he went on to go to Princeton University. He also went on to star om the animated series of Spider Man from 1977 to 1979. He currently lives in Sydney, Australia.

Louisa was portrayed by Heather Menzies (her name is funny). She was 13 when she was in the Sound of Music. She worked with Andrews again at the age of 16 in the film Hawaii. She guested in many tv shows through out the 70s and 80s. She also apeered in Playboy (what a bad girl!). Menzies was a cancer survivor. She nows lives in L. A with her youngest child.

Duane Chase was Kurt. He really did not do much after the movie. He went to high school, went to college and got a degree in geology. He now lives in Seattle, Washington.

Brigitta was played by Angela Cartwright. She like many other actors in the movies went and guested or were in multiple television shows throughout the 70s and 80s. Most prominently Lost in Space. She wrote one book and has had a website for years. She currently resides in California.

Marta (the one who liked pink) was played by Debbie Turner. Her name sounds like she should be a farmer. After the movie she started a very successful flower company. She lives in Massachusetts with her four daughters.

Finally, there was Gretl played by Kym Karath.  She went to college after the movie and got a degree in Humanities. She then went to Paris to become  a model. She currently has one daughter.

As you can see if you thought you saw these actors again after this movie, you were wrong. So go have fun with that.
